Funnel

What is a Funnel?

A funnel in marketing and sales refers to a graphical representation of the customer journey. It's a visual representation of the steps a potential customer takes to go from being a complete stranger to a paying customer. The term "funnel" refers to the narrowing of options as the customer moves through the buying process.

Why are Funnels important?

A well-designed funnel provides valuable insights into the customer's journey, allowing businesses to identify what's working and what needs improvement. This information is critical for making informed decisions that drive sales and improve the overall customer experience.

What are the elements of a Funnel?

A typical sales funnel has several stages, which include Awareness, Interest, Consideration, Intent, Evaluation, Conversion or Purchase, and Loyalty. These steps are crucial for guiding customers through the buying process and ultimately leading them to make a purchase. Let’s take a closer look at each of them:

Awareness

This stage is where potential customers become aware of your brand or product. This can be achieved through various marketing and advertising efforts such as social media, search engine optimization, and paid advertising.

Interest

The second stage, Interest, is where customers start to actively engage with your brand and express interest in what you have to offer. This can be accomplished through educational content such as blog posts, videos, and product demonstrations.

Consideration

In this stage, customers start to consider your brand as a potential solution to their needs. This is where you can provide them with additional information, resources, and support to help them make an informed decision.

Intent

At this stage, customers have a clear understanding of your brand and are actively considering making a purchase. This is where you can use various tactics, such as offering discounts or limited-time offers to encourage them to take action.

Evaluation

In this stage, customers are evaluating the different options available to them, including your brand. They are comparing the benefits and features of your product or service to other solutions in the market.

Conversion or Purchase

The Conversion or Purchase stage is where customers finally make the decision to complete the purchase.

Loyalty

At this point, the customer is familiar with your products and the shopping experience, and depending on the quality of your products and services and the added value you have provided throughout the funnel, they may return and continue purchasing from you and even recommend your business to other people. Having a loyalty program with progressive perks in place can boost the likelihood of them returning and advocating for your brand.
