DNSWhat is DNS?
In the online world, DNS is for the internet what a phone book is for telecom; you don’t have to know someone’s phone number by heart to reach them, you just have to know their name and look them up in the phonebook. Similarly, to get to a website, you only need to know its name (domain) and the DNS will handle the rest.
How does DNS work?
DNS works by using a distributed database of servers that store domain name records. When you enter a website address, your request is sent to the DNS resolver, which is usually provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP). The resolver then queries the DNS server for the IP address associated with the domain name.
Why is DNS important?
A fast and reliable DNS service can improve a website's performance and reduce the risk of downtime or service interruptions, which can lead to lost sales and a damaged reputation. DNS also plays a crucial role in online security by protecting your website from various threats, such as phishing attacks and DNS hijacking.
