How are contact ratings calculated?

To determine contact ratings, theMarketer monitors the interactions that each of your contacts has with your newsletter campaigns. Nevertheless, the interactions with automation emails are not taken into account

Contact ratings range from 0 to 5 stars and are based on the activity score of each contact. To determine activity scores, we measure the engagement of each contact (i.e. the click activity) with your newsletter campaigns.

By default, all new contacts in your audience will have a 0-star contact rating.

Here is an overview of what each type of contact rating means:

  • 0 stars: the contact has never clicked on any of your campaigns
  • 1 star: the contact has clicked on a single campaign out of all the campaigns you have ever sent using theMarketer
  • 2 stars: the contact has clicked on a minimum of two campaigns out of all the campaigns you have ever sent using theMarketer, but not more than 30% of the total number of campaigns
  • 3 stars: the contact has clicked on 30% to 60% of all the campaigns you have ever sent using theMarketer
  • 4 stars: the contact has clicked on 60% to 90% of all the campaigns you have ever sent using theMarketer
  • 5 stars: the contact has clicked on more than 90% of all the campaigns you have ever sent using theMarketer

For example, the moment you create your theMarketer account and import your subscribers, each contact will have a 0-star rating.

Once you will have sent 10 newsletter campaigns using theMarketer, your contact ratings might start to look like this:

  • Subscribers who have never clicked on any campaign will stay at 0;
  • Those who clicked on only one of them will have a 1-star rating;
  • Those who clicked on two campaigns will have a 2-star rating;
  • Those who clicked on three to five campaigns will have a 3-star rating;
  • Those who clicked on six to eight campaigns will have a 4-star rating;
  • Those who clicked on nice or all ten campaigns will have a 5-star rating.

Contact ratings help you understand how your contacts interact with your campaigns and give you methods to increase engagement. For example, you can create different segments based on contact ratings, and reward contacts with 5 stars for their engagement, while also trying to increase the engagement of contacts that have a lower rating with discounts or limited-time offers.
