How to validate your domain using DNS records

Creating successful online marketing campaigns with theMarketer hinges on a few crucial technical steps. One of the most fundamental is the validation of your domain via DNS records.

What is DNS?

DNS, or Domain Name System, is a structured set of instructions for your domain, dictating how traffic should be routed, where emails should be sent, and more.

Why validate your domain?

Think of DNS records as a business listing on Google Maps. Just as this listing gives users lots of useful information about a business, such as their location, opening hours, services offered, etc., DNS records serve a similar purpose for your domain.

A misstep in these records, much like a mislisted store on Google Maps, could prevent your customers from reaching you or your emails from going through. Validation ensures this digital pathway is free from obstructions and it helps protect your domain and marketing activities from potential threats.

How to validate your domain
  • Head to 'Settings' > 'Email settings’
  • Under ‘Domain validation’, you'll find specific DNS records assigned to your domain. Simply copy these details.
  • Add the copied DNS records to your hosting or DNS provider platform. If you happen to use Cloudflare, this is where you'll input the data.
  • Once the records are in place, return to theMarketer's settings page and click 'Validate'. This will confirm the records are set correctly.

If you prefer a developer to handle this for you, there's an easy solution. Just click the 'Send to your developer' button, input their email, and they'll receive all the necessary details.

DNS record validation might seem like a complex technical process, but it's essentially about ensuring that your online pathway operates without hitches and that you can leverage the full power of theMarketer for your digital strategies.
