What is a segment?

The audience you store in theMarketer contains a lot of useful information about your contacts, such as their country, location, gender, customer ratings, as well as any other custom attributes you may have defined.

A segment represents a smaller portion of your audience, which is filtered according to specific criteria that you can define, and which can then be targeted with newsletters, push notifications, and SMS messages.

theMarketer comes with dozens of pre-built segments populated automatically based on your customers’ behavior. These system segments are clustered under the following categories:

  • Campaign activity: Active (all time), Active (last 30 days), Active (last 3 months), Inactive (all time), Inactive (last 3 months)
  • Shopping: Buyers (lifetime), Buyers (last 30 days), Non-buyers, First-time customers, Repeat customers
  • Feedback (only available in Ecommerce and Ecommerce PRO plans): Promoters, Passives, Detractors
  • Gender: Male, Female
  • Loyalty (only available in Ecommerce PRO plan)
  • RFM - for the Ecommerce plan, the four default segments from Simple RFM Analysis, and for the Ecommerce PRO plan, the ten default segments from Advanced RFM Analysis
  • Funnels (only for Ecommerce and Ecommerce PRO plans) - Viewed homepage, Viewed category, Used search, Viewed product page, Added to cart, Initiated checkout, Purchased

You can also define your own custom segments. Learn more about creating your custom segments here.
