Double Opt-In

What is Double Opt-In?

In email marketing, there are two sign-up methods to collect email addresses from users: Single Opt-in and Double Opt-in. The latter implies a confirmation step, where the email recipient has to confirm their sign-up, in order to be able to receive marketing emails from a brand or e-shop.

How does Double Opt-In work?

A user arrives on a website or the sign-up landing page, where they fill out their email address. Then they receive an opt-in email where they have to click on a confirmation link to finalize the sign-up process. Once confirmed, the address is automatically added to the subscriber database of the organization, along with other relevant information (IP address, sign-up date, confirmation date, etc.).

Why is Double Opt-In important?

The Double Opt-In sign-up method enables businesses to build healthy subscriber lists, which ensures a good domain reputation and an increase in email deliverability.

Double Opt-in also satisfies certain GDPR requirements and regulations applicable to various countries and offers many other advantages to businesses that decide to use it, such as improving low open rates and protecting against future abuse complaints or spam markings, which would inevitably affect email domain reputation as well as customer experience.
