How to Format Your Files When Importing SubscribersHow to Format Your Files When Importing Subscribers
The easiest way to import your contacts to theMarketer is via CSV file import.
Depending on the type of contacts you want to import, there are certain fields your data is required to include:
- Email address - when importing Email contacts
- Phone number - when importing SMS contacts.
Optionally, you can include other fields, such as First name, Last name, and custom attributes which can enable a greater degree of segmentation and personalization.
During the import process, theMarketer will try to automatically identify and associate the columns of your imported files to the existing system fields. If we cannot identify all fields, you will be asked to match the column to the audience fields manually. If the field does not exist, you can create a new attribute in your audience, and match it to the corresponding column in the import files.
In this article, you will learn how to format each column in your import files, in order to get the best results. Please note that each column containing information in your import file needs to be labeled.
Email address
The email address column is required if you are importing Email contacts. Please review the email addresses for missing information, extra spaces before or after the email address.
Phone
The phone field is required only when importing SMS contacts. If you are importing Email contacts whose Phone numbers are also included, contacts will be subscribed to SMS as well. Please make sure you use international formatting standards for all phone numbers if your subscribers are in different countries.
Text fields
Text fields can be used for importing information, such as contact First name, Last name, Country, City, and other custom attributes, such as customer group, job title etc.
For the Country column, please use country ISO Codes; for example the ISO code for Germany is DE, for France - FR, Italy - IT, Romania - RO, etc.
Birthday
If you store your contact’s birthday, you can use it to send annual birthday automations, which can include special anniversary offers.
The accepted format for birthdays is mm/dd/yyyy.
